Some older mandolins have a tiny strap button. Modern straps often have a strap button hole that is too big and can feel loose on the button. That's a concern, as the strap may become disconnected while in use. Follow this guide to prevent this from happening. Alternatively, ask for smaller strap pin holes when you buy a mandolin strap from us.
First, get hold of a piece of 1/8" (3mm) diameter elastic cord. This might be sold as "shock cord" or "bungee cord". In these pictures, silicon cord is being used. Cut the cord to a 12" (30cm) length.
Fold the cord in the middle and tie a knot to form a loop about an inch or so in length (3cm).
Tie another knot in the cord to form another loop which will fit tightly on on the strap pin. Depending on the elasticity of your cord, this will be about a 1/2" in length (15mm).
Now attach the big end to the strap, by pushing the big end loop through the strap hole, then put the rest of the cord through that loop. (See picture for a better explanation!)
Finally fit the small loop on the mandolin's strap button. Job done! Check it's all good and tight and won't come apart while you're playing.
