Advice on US tariffs

Update August 6, 2025

THE BAD NEWS

It is common for items bought from another country to be taxed on entry to the buyer's country.   This import tariff/tax is paid by the buyer.  For as long as anyone can remember, items valued under $800 can be imported into the US tariff-free.  This allowance was scrapped by the US president on July 30. From August 29th, all imports, irrespective of value, will be taxed by US customs.

In short, if you live in the US and you buy anything from Pinegrove after August 29, then there will be an import tariff to pay.

In fact, if you are in the US and you buy anything from anybody outside of the US (England, Canada, Mexico, anywhere),  then there will be a tariff to pay.

THE SLIGHTLY BETTER NEWS

At this point, we don’t know how much the tariff will be.  Hopefully it will only be 10% or less of the item value.  If it is 10% or less, then Pinegrove will be able to absorb the cost so that US customers will not have to pay this new tax.

If it is a lot higher, then we have a challenge on our hands.  We'll find out after August 29.

MUSING...

August is not a great time for all this to happen.  The US Customs Service, USPS and other carriers will have to make a lot of preparations to cope with these unexpected new rules. Many of the staff will be on vacation!

And don't forget, we love all our US customers! You're a big part of what makes Pinegrove work.
